Punjab Kings retained and released players list ahead of IPL 2026 season

The Punjab Kings fell one step short in the IPL 2025 season as they lost against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final match in Ahmedabad. But the Kings will be looking to make a strong comeback next year. And it starts by preparing the Punjab Kings (PBKS) Released and Retained Players List 2026.

The Punjab Kings qualified for the IPL playoffs after ten long years in 2025 since their last qualification in 2014. Under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, Punjab finished at the top of the points table and reached the final only to lose to RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis might be the big name who will be in PBKS released players list ahead of the IPL 2026 Auction. Marcus was included in the side for INR 11 Crore. However, the Aussie all-rounder scored only 160 runs in 11 innings and was even dropped from the team for a few matches. With the ball, he got only 1 wicket in 9 innings. Punjab could look to increase the purse for the auction by releasing Marcus.

Glenn Maxwell

Another Australian all-rounder who could be released ahead of the IPL 2026 season is Glenn Maxwell. He played 6 matches in which he scored 48 runs only and took 4 wickets. Unfortunately, he got injured during the season and couldn’t play the entire season for the Kings.

Mitchell Owen

Australian opening batter Mitchell Owen replaced Glenn Maxwell in the Punjab Kings setup for the IPL 2025 season after the latter got injured. He played in only one match against Rajasthan Royals and got out for a duck. He didn’t fit into their setup, so expect the Kings to not retain him.

Kyle Jamieson

Another replacement player who will be in the PBKS released players list 2026 is New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson. Making a return to the IPL since 2022, Jamieson took 5 wickets in 4 matches coming in as a replacement for injured Lockie Ferguson. However, he was signed as a temporary replacement signing for the 2nd half. Thus, the Kings cannot retain him.

Punjab Kings spent big bucks, INR 26.75 Crore, to rope in the services of captain Shreyas Iyer. He finished the season as the team’s top run scorer with 604 runs in 17 innings. He also led the side brilliantly, guiding the team to their first playoff qualification since 2014. So, definitely, Shreyas Iyer will be at the top of the Punjab King’s retained players list in 2026.

Prabhsimran Singh was one of the two players who were retained by the franchise ahead of the Mega Auction. And he delivered on the promise he displayed in 2024. In the IPL 2025, Prabhsimran scored 549 runs in 17 innings to finish as one of the top run scorers for the team. He will be staying with the franchise for INR 4 Crore Salary.

Young batter Priyansh Arya impressed everyone with scintillating batting in his debut IPL season. After being bought for just INR 3.8 Crore, Arya went on to score 475 runs in 17 innings.

Arshdeep Singh was the highest wicket-taker for the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 season. The left-arm pacer took 21 wickets in 17 games this season. He will be one of the top names PBKS retained players list 2026.

Marco Jansen, the South African pacer, was also in great form in the IPL 2025 season for the Kings. The left-arm pacer also picked 16 wickets in 14 matches. He couldn’t play in the playoffs as he joined the South African team.

Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t have a good start to the season. However, his form improved significantly as the season progressed. The veteran spinner and IPL’s all-time top wicket-taker 16 wickets this season. There were huge expectations after PBKS signed him for INR 18 Crore.
